Role of Toll like Receptor(s) in Tumor Biology in Juniper in Journal of Tumor Medicine & Prevention 

Toll like receptors belong to a family of specialized immune receptors that highly conserved and specific for their ligands. TLR signaling can identify specific pathogen and can induce expression of inflammatory cytokines, chemokines, initiate opsonization and phagocytosis, elicit reactive oxygen/nitrogen species production, activate the complement pathway etc. to get rid of it. Apart from its unquestionable role in pathogen recognition and neutralization, TLRs can also identify altered self-proteins including those expressed by transformed cell. Agonists of toll like receptors, both of natural or synthetic origin have been exploited for their ability to elicit and/or potentiate anticancer response alone or when combined with available treatment regimes. TLR agonist mediated activation of immune cells (lymphocytes, leukocytes etc.) and production of inflammatory mediators leads to the generation of cellular (adaptive) immune responses that hold promising applications
against cancer progression.

Granular Cell Tumor- Juniper Publishers


Introduction: Granular cell tumors are rare neoplasms, which can be either benign or malignant. They are often discovered as incidental findings on imaging.
Case: 34-year-old smoker, with complaints of fever, chills; malaise was found to have a posterior mediastenal mass on chest imaging. EBUS guided FNA of the mediastenal mass revealed histopathologic features consistent with benign granular cell tumor. Patient underwent thoracotomy and required right lower bi-lobectomy and re implantation of the right upper bronchus to the trachea, as mass was adherent o the right main stem bronchus.
Discussion: Granular cell tumors are rare slow growing neoplasms, also known as Abrikosoff tumors, commonly present in the fourth to sixth decade of life. They are of Schwann cell origin and can involve any organ of the body. GCT’s are characterized with pathologic features of homogenous cells containing abundant eosinophilic granular cytoplasm with periodic acid Schiff (PAS) positive and diastase resistant granules. GCT’s can be classified into benign, atypical and malignant GCT’s based on the histologic criteria and Ki-67 index. For benign and atypical granular cell tumors, wide local excision with clear margins is curative. Malignant granular cell tumors often require adjuvant radiotherapy in addition to the local surgical excision.

Mouse Tumor Necrosis Using Photodynamic Therapy in Juniper in Journal of Tumor Medicine & Prevention (JTMP)

To investigate the efficacy of 630nm and 650nm light sources and compare to both light source for photodynamic therapy effects after treatment. In the experimental method, we divided the mice into two control and test group which HepG2 and HeLa cell line induced cancer mass in mice. Photofrin was administered to the tumor-bearing mouse, followed 30 hours later by 630nm and 650nm laser light exposure. After photodynamic therapy, we analyzed the two mice group for the tumor mass size, tumor growth, tumor cell necrosis, pathological anatomy change.

Hyperparathyroidism (HPT) is an endocrine disease characterized by a hypercalcemic state due to hyper secretion of parathyroid hormone. Imaging in parathyroid disease (hyperparathyroidism) is aimed at localizing enlarged parathyroid glands after a biochemical diagnosis of hyperparathyroidism has been made.
